Stardust

Regular price $995.00 $0.00

"Stardust" is the first painting in a brand new series called "Vintage Vinyl" featuring paintings inspired from hit songs from the years 1940-1980.  It measures 24x24x1.75 inches.

This piece is an evocation of the scene I imagined as I listed to the song for the first time (see some of the lyrics below).  The colors are violet, red-violet and blue-violet; and the flowers are an array of different roses along with an echinacea and lily.  A singing Nightengale sits atop the echinacea flower sharing his dreamy song-filled memory of love.

Mixed media elements include handmade botanical monoprints, player piano music (with lines about the golden time of first love), sheet music from "Stardust," and pages from a gardening dictionary.

Sides of the painting are painted Payne's Gray. It is fitted with wire to hang without a frame (but can, of course, be framed if you'd like).

Lyrics from "Stardust" - originally written by Hoagy Charmichael and performed in 1940 by Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey with vocals by Frank Sinatra.

Sometimes I wonder why I spend the lonely night
Dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation is in the stardust of a song
And beside a garden wall, when stars were bright
You were in my arms
The nightingale told his fairy tale
A paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody, the memory of love's refrain
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it always will remain
My stardust melody, the memory of love's refrain
The memory of love's refrain
