A Time to Fly

"A Time to Fly" is a 24 x18 x 2 inch mixed media and acrylic painting on thick, deep cradled canvas.

This is a very special painting created to commemorate and honor the "flight" of my children as they leave "the nest" and move on to adult life and college. This is always an important transition for parents (especially mothers), and I wanted to paint a piece to honor the process and as a reminder that our love and creativity has the power to create beauty even when we are facing change. 

To make this piece a collaboration between my children and myself, I first printed copies of some of their artwork and (adorable) letters -- those things we save in the attic because they are too precious to discard -- onto wet strength tissue paper. These childhood artifacts became the first layers of the painting, and I then slightly obscured and reworked them into the background of trees and sky through layering of more mono printed tissue.  Finally, I added the foreground of two little birds leaving the flowery garden while the yellow goldfinch looked on with hope and pride. The final story is one where we remember the way love and creativity intertwine and nothing is lost, only transformed. 

Fitted with wire, and signed and titled on reverse. Sides are painted in Storm Blue.   Ready to hang on the wall without a frame! Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity listing you as the original buyer.
