"Sweet Child O' Mine"
Sweet Child O' Mine is a 12x12 x 1.75 inch original mixed media painting on canvas. This painting is inspired by the 1988 song of the same title by Guns N Roses. This one came up on the playlist while I was painting "I'm Still Standing," and it made me tear up, so I knew I would need to include it in this series, too. I wanted to capture the lyrics "she's got eyes of the bluest skies as if they thought of rain" and "Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place/ Where as a child I'd hide/ And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by.' It features two lovebirds - one with a blue eye and the other nuzzling her hair. The painting includes lyrics and sheet music from the song, and you can see them peeking through the paint and bits of collage paper. I listened to the song while painting, and it made my heart sing, too. (the sides are painted neutral gray to match the grays in the painting)
Some more of the lyrics:
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Whoa, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
As if they thought of rain
I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by
