Near You is a 12x12x1.5 Mixed Media Painting on wood panel inspired by the 1947 hit song written and originally recorded by Francis Craig and his Orchestra with lyrics by Kermit Goell.
Two lovebirds sit in a magical garden of chrysanthemums, scabiosa flowers, roses and daisies. They cuddle closely, each happy to be 'near you.' Mixed media include handmade and nepalese papers, monoprints, a map, dictionary pages and glitter!
Some lyrics I was thinking of when creating the sweet lovebirds in this piece:
There's just one place for me, near you
It's like heaven to be, near you
Times when we're apart
I can't face my heart
Say you'll never stray
More than two lips away
-- Kermit Goell from Near You, 1947
This is the 8th piece in my "Vintage Vinyl" series inspired by songs from 1940-1980.
