"Wings of Desire" Original Painting
"Wings of Desire" is a 12x12 x 2 inch original mixed media painting on cradled wood panel. This painting is inspired by the 1998 top hit song titled, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls. You probably remember the song from the soundtrack of City of Angels starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. Did you also know that the US film was based on the iconic Wim Wenders German film called Wings of Desire? Wings of Desire was shot in Berlin and featured West Berlin in color and East Berlin in black and white. My painting is a love story between these two birds -- the one in flight is emerging from the black and white world and flying into the brightly-colored world of his love, and as he flies toward her, he turns into color as well!
When I painted this piece, I was thinking of the lyrics:
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am"
Signed & titled on reverse and fitted with wire to hang on the wall without a frame.
