"I'm Still Standing"
I'm Still Standing is a 24x12 x 1.75 inch original mixed media painting on canvas. This painting is inspired by the 1983 classic of the same title by Elton John. It features a colorful, glittery bird (I'd say this was Elton or his kindred spirits!) and a tall sunflower that stands proudly, always turning his face toward the sun. There is also a December zinnia and several bright daisies in the piece. In addition to handmade and vintage paper, a page from a fairy tale and other collage materials, the painting includes lyrics and sheet music from the song, and you can see them peeking through the paint. I listened to the song while painting and fell in love with Elton John all over again. (The sides are now painted a lovely neutral gray to match the grays in the piece.)
Some of the lyrics:
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I'm still standing, you just fade away
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
