"The Finer Things"
The Finer Things is a 20x20 x 1.75 inch original mixed media painting on canvas. This painting is inspired by the 1987 hit by Steve Winwood from the Higher Love album. It features two lovebirds flying high in the sky set against a river and mountains. The river was inspired by the line "for time is a river." In addition to handmade and vintage paper, a page from a fairy tale and other collage materials, the painting includes lyrics and sheet music from the song, and you can see them peeking through the paint. The entire river is collaged bits of blue and green paper and lyrics! I listened to the song while painting and remembered again why I was obsessed with Steve Winwood in 1987. (The sides are now painted in a dark midnight blue black to match the painting.)
Some of the lyrics:
Let's go out and feel everything
If you hold me
I will let you into my dreams
We must live while we can
And we'll drink our cup of laughter
The way my soul gets lost in you
The finer things I feel in me
The golden dance life could be
